Australian Jack McVeigh hotter than a Las Vegas' summer shooting puts him in frame for NBA contract

Australian guard Jack McVeigh is shooting his way into a NBA contract at the 2025 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Atlanta's McVeigh, 29, reminded his former Houston Rockets team what they had with a red hot 8-from-10 from the field 21 points, including 4-from-6 threes in the Hawks 111-108 overtime win on Tuesday, July 15, 2025.

He followed that up another heater, going 7-from-11 from the field, 3-from-7 from deep in another 20-point performance as the Hawks rolled Memphis 92-88.

McVeigh, from Cabarita Beach in northern NSW, has gone 15-from-21 from the field in two games and 7-from-13 from three point land.

He was a two-way player for the Rockets in 2024-25, playing mostly in the G League. He put up 15.7 points and 4.6 rebounds per game for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers.

The 201cm shooter has without doubt made his case for at least another two-way contract with the Atlanta Hawks.

If McVeigh does earn a contract, he will join Australian Boomers teammate Dyson Daniels, who was awarded the 2024-25 Most Improved Player, on a re-tooled roster that can compete for the Eastern Conference championship.

McVeigh made the jump to the NBA after winning the NBL championship in 2024 with the Tasmania JackJumpers — hitting one of the biggest shots in NBL Grand Final history to beat Melbourne United 3-2 in the best of five series.
