Sharpshooter Reyne Smith snipes Summer League spot

• Reyne Smith went undrafted but still secured a Summer League spot with Denver
• If unsuccessful with the NBA, he is expected to sign in Europe over playing in the NBL
• Smith shot the three at 37.9% in his senior year at Louisville

Sharpshooting Tasmanian Reyne Smith will suit up for the Denver Nuggets in the NBA Summer League this July, reports Brett Siegel.

While four other Australians were drafted in the 2nd Round of Friday's NBA Draft, Smith was unsuccessful but was still able to secure a Summer League spot. He joins other Aussies including Biwali Bayles who signed with the Knicks for Summer League, after Brian Goorjian was named an assistant coach with New York for the event.

Smith, who finished an impressive college career at NCAA Division 1 powerhouse Louisville, looks set to bypass the NBL for at least next season with his priorities set on the NBA Draft process and Summer League while also garnering major interest in Europe.

The 22-year-old Tasmanian product established himself as one of the best shooters in college basketball with Louisville and would have been a major addition to an NBL club, potentially as an Australian marquee but it is believed European clubs are showing more interest in the young gun than teams back home.

Smith worked out for NBA teams leading up to the NBA Draft while training at Impact Basketball in Las Vegas.

The 6'2" shooting guard from Ulverstone, Tasmania averaged 13.1 points per game in his senior year at Louisville, along with 2.8 rebounds and 0.8 assists while shooting the three ball at 37.9%. His best three-point shooting season came in his junior year, hitting from beyond the arc at 41%.

His season-high points tally of 30 points came in a win over SMU on January 22, when he connected on 10-from-17 from three-point land.

Smith also enjoyed a successful Adidas Eurocamp in Italy, including going for 28 points and hitting eight triples in a convincing win for Team Eurocamp 2.

The former Basketball Australia Centre of Excellence scholarship holder spent three seasons as Charleston before transferring to Louisville for his senior year of college basketball.
