What Happened
The Liberty established complete dominance from the opening tip, racing to a commanding 31-13 lead after the first quarter. Their momentum continued unabated in the second period as they extended their advantage to 60-28 by halftime. New York's offensive juggernaut reached its peak in the third quarter, outscoring Connecticut 30-8 to build an insurmountable 90-36 lead heading into the final frame.
Connecticut showed some fight in the fourth quarter, winning the period 16-10, but by then the outcome had long been decided. The Sun's offensive struggles were evident throughout, as they shot a dismal 31.1 percent from the field and connected on just six of 28 attempts from beyond the arc.
New York's balanced attack featured three starters—Breanna Stewart, Leonie Fiebich, and Jonquel Jones—each scoring exactly 13 points. Ionescu led all scorers with 18 points on stellar six-of-nine shooting, including four-of-six from three-point range. The Liberty's efficient offense was on full display as they shot an outstanding 62.3 percent from the field and an exceptional 59.4 percent from three-point territory, connecting on 19 of 32 attempts from deep.
The Liberty's teamwork was equally impressive, as they recorded 29 assists on 33 made field goals. Natasha Cloud orchestrated the offense with seven assists, while Marine Johannes added six assists off the bench. Defensively, New York forced 19 Connecticut turnovers and recorded 11 steals, with four players registering multiple steals.
With this victory, the Liberty improved to a perfect 7-0 record, solidifying their position atop the WNBA standings. The Sun fell to 1-6, continuing their early-season struggles and remaining at the bottom of the league table.
