Breakers claim NBL Blitz title in Canberra

The CODE Sports NBL Blitz concluded in Canberra after five days of pre-season basketball, with the New Zealand Breakers securing the Loggins-Bruton Cup.
The Breakers finished with 13 points across their games, ahead of the Tasmania JackJumpers on 9 points.
Import guard Izaiah Brockington was awarded the Ray Borner Medal as tournament MVP. He polled 25 votes after averaging 20 points, nine rebounds and three assists across two appearances.
The Breakers defeated Cairns 109-101, with Reuben Te Rangi leading the scoring in their final outing with 20 points and six rebounds. Sam Mennenga contributed 18 points, Sean Bairstow 12 and Izayah Le’afa 11 with seven assists.
Cairns were without imports Admiral Schofield and Ashton Hagans and guard Reyne Smith. Kody Stattmann scored 15 points, Alex Higgins-Titsha 13 and Kyrin Galloway 12 for the Taipans.
South East Melbourne ended its Blitz campaign with a 102-81 win against Sydney. New signings Hunter Maldonado (14 points, 3/5 three-point shooting), John Brown III (13 points, four rebounds) and Vrenz Bleijenbergh (12 points, four rebounds, four assists) all featured strongly. For the Kings, Tim Soares posted 14 points and eight rebounds, Jaylin Galloway added 13 points and Matthew Dellavedova finished with 11 points and eight assists.
A sell out across the fibe day spectacles saw crowds of more than 18,000 across the week.
The Hungry Jack’s NBL26 season begins on September 18.
